Antar, from Sanskrit: within. Nova, from Latin: new.
Two old languages, one quiet agreement: whatever truly renews a person is not applied from the outside. It is kindled within, and then it is tended.
At DPS Surat, the school house I belonged to was Phoenix. I remember caring less about the house points than about the story itself: a bird that, at the end of one life, gathers what remains of it and rises into another.
Years later, as a psychiatrist, I watched that story stop being a myth. I have sat with people in their ash years: after a breakdown, after a long depression, after a loss, after an illness nobody around them could see. And I have watched the same people, with treatment, with time, and with someone steady beside them, rise into lives they had quietly stopped hoping for.
That is what ANNOVA exists for. Not to promise transformation; no honest doctor can. But to take part in the rising: with medicine where medicine helps, with patience where patience heals, and with respect for how hard the climb really is.
The phoenix does not rise because someone commands it to. It rises because rising is in its nature. I believe the same of people.
The ANNOVA mark is drawn from Ikigai, the Japanese idea of a life worth waking for: what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what sustains you. Four petals, overlapping where a life comes together.
On this page the mark breathes at the pace of box breathing. Four seconds to open, four to hold, four to release, four to rest. If you have been reading at its rhythm, you have already taken a few of the slowest breaths of your day.
ANNOVA is the shared home of two independent medical practices. Each doctor sees patients in their own right; ANNOVA is the roof, not the clinic.
